SLOW PULP NEW HORSE

Following the success of their delightfully sludgy singles 'Idaho', 'At it Again', 'Falling Apart' and 'Montana', we've been anticipating the release of rising Chicago shoegaze band Slow Pulp's debut album, and it's finally here. The new album Moveys has not failed to please our lust for sultry, 90s-style guitar music. The first track 'New Horse' is an excellent opener, with it's stripped back, drum-less approach. A finger-picked acoustic guitar pattern paves the way for Emily's husky, heart-felt vocals, ornamented with luscious harmonies and later, a fuzzy synthesiser. 'New Horse' is a gentle and incredibly moving opening track. Emily explains a little about the beginnings of the album: "I went to the doctor in the fall of 2019 right before we were going on some other tours. I got my diagnosis [Lyme Disease and Chronic Mono]. It was really validating in a lot of ways because it was another piece of my health that was causing my fatigue and my anxiety and getting sick a lot. That’s kind of when we really started writing the record—after that diagnosis". The strength and courage of Slow Pulp resonates through their incredible debut album Moveys - out now via Winspear. -Ellie Rose-Davies
